Ornamental Features
Girard's Hot Shot Azalea is covered in stunning clusters of lightly-scented crimson trumpet-shaped flowers at the ends of the branches in mid spring before the leaves. It has green foliage which emerges light green in spring. The glossy narrow leaves turn an outstanding orange in the fall. The fruit is not ornamentally significant.
Landscape Attributes
Girard's Hot Shot Azalea is a dense multi-stemmed deciduous shrub with a mounded form. Its average texture blends into the landscape, but can be balanced by one or two finer or coarser trees or shrubs for an effective composition.
This is a relatively low maintenance shrub, and should only be pruned after flowering to avoid removing any of the current season's flowers. It has no significant negative characteristics.
