Deep orange umbels in late spring and early summer. A slow-growing butterfly magnet. This plant takes poor soils and can often be seen growing on roadsides throughout the eastern two-thirds of the U.S. It is also a key plant in the life cycle of the Monarch butterfly, serving both as a nectar source for adults and host plant for caterpillars.
