This large shrub is all about the bloom power. The lipstick-red flowers in May are enough to make this a choice selection, but when followed by waves of rebloom until frost, it proves its worth again and again. Maintenance is minimal, and deadheading is not needed to keep the plant blooming. You'll be amazed by the hummingbirds attracted to your garden, as the tubular, red flowers are just the sort that will keep them coming for weeks. Best flowering occurs in full sun, but light shade won't harm it, particularly in warmer climates. By keeping pollinators happy and visiting your garden, you'll be doing yourself (and the environment) a favor. Consider adding to the border, a foundation planting or as a colorful hedge.
